English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
The Jordan School District Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced level classes to adults of any nationality. Emphasis is placed on English speaking, listening comprehension, writing, and reading comprehension skills.
ESOL Semester Classes
Classes are taught on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday Evenings (September-May) from 6 to 8 pm on the SLCC Jordan Campus at Southpointe High School. Students may enter at any time during the semester after attending an Orientation & Registration Session (see below). Tuition is $50 for each 18-week semester. 1st semester September-Mid January and 2nd semester Mid-January through May.
Orientation & Registration Sessions
Individuals who want to take ESOL classes must attend an Orientation and Registration Session prior to attending classes. These sessions are held every week and take approximately 2 hours to complete. Sessions are held on the SLCC Jordan Campus at Southpointe High School in Building 2, Room 314.
Individuals must bring the following with them to the orientation and registration session:

$50 tuition and $20 for the ESL textbook (cash or check)

Proof of Utah Residency - State ID, Driver's License, Utility Bill etc.
Individuals will complete the ESOL Class Registration Form and take the BEST Literacy Assessment which is aligned with the ESOL descriptors of the National Reporting System and Student Performance Levels. This test includes:
- Reading tasks - reading dates on a calendar, labels on food and clothing, bulletin announcements, and newspaper want ads.
- Writing tasks - addressing an envelope, writing a rent check, filling out a personal background form, and writing personal notes.
