General Education Development (GED) Tests

General Information
The GED Testing Program provides an opportunity for individuals who did not complete a high school program of instruction to have the learning acquired through a variety of everyday life experiences evaluated and recognized.  Individuals have to be able to read, compute, interpret information, and express themselves in writing on a level comparable to that of 60 percent of graduating high school seniors.

GED tests make it possible to earn a High School Completion Diploma, future opportunities to pursue higher education, obtain jobs or promotions, and achieve personal goals.

96% of companies accept applicants with a GED credential for jobs requiring a high school diploma.

GED tests are internationally recognized. They have been designed to measure major academic skills and knowledge in core content areas that are learned during four years of high school. When an adult passes the eight-hour test battery, the resulting GED credential certifies that he or she has attained subject matter knowledge and skills associated with high school completion.

Individuals desiring the GED Test must 1) register with the GEd Testing Service, 2) register with Diane Staley at Southpointe Adult High School before the registration deadline and 3) take the test at Southpointe Adult High School on your scheduled date.

The request will be submitted to the Utah State Office of Education for review and approval.  If approved, a time and date will be scheduled.  No one wll receive testing accommodations without USOE approval.   For more information see USOE GED Accommodations.
